Hayay Sarah

The Sidra depicts the death and burial of Mother Sarah. She lived until an old age, but not until G-d fulfilled His promise to bless her with a child. She waited until her ninetieth year to have Isaac delivered to her and Abraham. 
The impending birth was predicted by a visiting Angel who told Sarah, “I will return in the next season and you shall have a son.” 
Angels are messengers of G-d. They speak truths at the behest of their Master. Yet, the Angel did not reappear to Sarah when it was time to give birth. Did her lie? Is this possible that the Angel deceived Sarah?
The Medzibozer Rebbe explains: “The Angel promised to return to Sarah. He did not deceive her. Instead, when the Angel returned he came in the form of the baby Sarah delivered.”
There are many old legends which tell of the Holy one blessed be He dispatching sacred souls from the Next Universe and giving them to parents. Children are born with much knowledge of the Other Side but swiftly forget. Every once in a while we glimpse Eden in their knowing eyes before all memory is gone from them. 
Sarah passed form this world knowing this great secret. The Angel had kept his promise. 
We are all beings with holiness ensconced deep within. Sometimes you may feel the gentle nudge of your old soul. Take time to listen to it. There timeless wisdom there.

“And Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them unto his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, Give me, I pray thee, of your son's mandrakes. And she said unto her, ‘Is it a small matter that thou hast taken my husband? and you would take away my son's mandrakes also?’ And Rachel said, ‘Therefore he shall lie with thee to night for thy son's mandrakes.’ And Jacob came out of the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, ‘You must come in unto me; for surely I have hired you with my son's mandrakes.   The Lord tells Aaron to bless the people in His name (Chapter 6).     What follow is the most famous blessing in the entire Torah.     Do you recognize it?     When is it recited and by whom?   1.It appears in the daily morning service.  The blessing is recited at the public repetition of the Amidah. 2. The blessing is said where the Kohanim still duchan – that is when they are invited onto the bima, place a tallit over their head and then bless the congregation.  In Israel, Kohanim duchan every Shabbat.  In America duchanning is usually reserved for the High Holy Days. 3.
